Art Teacher

Bretton Hall Teacher Training College was, in 1958, one of only two colleges specialising in Art Teaching. The tutoring was sketchy, and most of the valuable skills came from learning on the job. First at Beighton Secondary Modern (challenging) and later at Norfolk School on Craddock Road, Sheffield.

Having left teaching to start a family, Isabel soon developed a long-held passion for machine embroidery, an art-form which in those days was in its infancy. She rapidly gained skills and began selling work, and then turned to adult education, becoming a teacher of Creative Needlework, about which she was, and still is, passionate.

This eventually led to further classes under her own leadership teaching Acrylics and Watercolour painting to adults.  The subject matter is varied and challenging, and the classes follow a lesson-plan for each year, as new methods are introduced.

Isabel encourages her students to continually learn new skills, and to develop their own styles. The classes suit both beginners and more experienced students, each progressing at their own speed.
